This project was designed and completed while employed at Tenet Design Partners.
As Design Lead for the 50,000 SF climbing gym, I directed the project from concept development through construction coordination and final execution. The project brings together athletic performance, hospitality, community, and immersive architectural experience.
01
Design Vision
Working closely with the client, I developed the overall design vision for the facility. The program included a 55 foot climbing wall, competition speed wall, bouldering zones, yoga studio, weight training areas, sauna facilities, and spa inspired locker rooms.
Birch plywood, layered lighting, faceted ceiling forms, and angular facade elements were used to create warmth, movement, and a visual connection to mountain topography.
02
Systems Coordination
A major part of the project involved coordinating mechanical systems, lighting, sprinklers, and air circulation within the climbing environment without compromising the visual experience.
Systems were carefully integrated around the climbing structures to maintain clean sightlines and preserve the immersive quality of the space.
03
Outdoor Community Space
The project included a large outdoor area designed as an extension of the gym. This space supports yoga, group fitness, events, and community gatherings.
Natural landscaping and flexible gathering zones helped strengthen the relationship between the building, the site, and the users.
04
Construction Oversight
During construction, I remained actively involved in maintaining design intent, reviewing field conditions, responding to RFIs, and coordinating with contractors, consultants, and specialty vendors.
The process required balancing technical problem solving, schedule awareness, budget considerations, and architectural quality.
05
Client Communication
I led design reviews, presentations, and coordination meetings to keep the client aligned with the project vision, operational goals, and construction progress.
06
Permitting Coordination
I assisted with permitting and regulatory coordination, including consultant collaboration and code compliance related to accessibility, life safety, and jurisdictional requirements.
